After many failed attempts, I thought to uninstall and reinstall. The download page on Microsoft store says the app is installed despite removing it and offers the option to Play.
Fortunately, there is a way to prevent this madness. Follow these instructions to stop Windows 10 from downloading and installing apps like Candy Crush Soda Saga automatically. Install all cumulative and other updates available for Windows 10 so you at least have the TH2 update. .
